Golf Calendar
Men’s Tournament Descriptions
The Opening Day Tournament is the kick-off to the season. Members form their own foursomes. The teams play a two best ball format using full handicap. The event begins with breakfast and finishes with light refreshments and prizes.
The Men’s Get Acquainted Tournament is a chance to play golf with some members that you may not know. Sign up as an individual and the Pro Shop makes the pairings. The format is a 4-person scramble. The Golf Professionals form their own team and challenge all teams to Beat the Pro’s.
The Men’s Blind Draw Classic is a 2-person event. Breakfast will be served at
The first Blue Plate Golf Special of the year is Thursday, May 24th. It is a member - one guest. Each twosome competes as a team in a casual format. The day consists of lunch, golf, prizes and hors d’oeuvres following golf.
The Two Man Best Ball is an elimination team event. Members make their own teams. The field is divided into two flights based on team handicap. Teams are then randomly seeded in their flights (last years top teams receive low seeds). Teams play best ball matches within their bracket. The winner of each match advances to the next round. Matches are played throughout the year until only one team stands unbeaten.
The Invitational is the premier event of the year. It is played over 4 days and is a member - one guest. Teams are divided into flights and play is based on a match play point format. Many special events are scheduled throughout the tournament.
The Shoot-Out begins in the morning with an 18-hole stroke play qualifier. The lowest three gross scores and the five lowest net scores qualify for the main event. The Shoot-Out is a 4-hole elimination event. Individuals receive full handicap and players are eliminated each hole based on their net score.
The second and third Blue Plate Golf Specials are a member - one guest or member - three guest event. Members and their guests will compete as a team. The day consists of lunch, golf, prizes and hors d’oeuvres following golf.
The Stroke Play Championship is an individual 36 hole tournament. The field is divided into four flights and all play is at scratch. This event also acts as the qualifier for the Match Play Club Championship.
The Club Championship is played as an individual match play elimination tournament. Players are seeded in their flight based on their score during the Stroke Play Championship. The 2006 Champions and Runners-Up will receive an automatic #1, 2 seed if they are still in the same flight. Members who are not able to play in the Stroke Play Championship may still enter the Club Championship and will be seeded at the end of the flight based on handicap index. Matches are played according to their seedings. The winner of each match advances to the next round until a champion is determined in each flight. The winner of the AA flight is the Club Champion.
The Seniors Tournament is for players age 50 and over. These players are divided into flights based on age. Play is on a handicap basis within age groups. Foursomes are paired by the pro shop.
The Men’s Member - Member Tournament is a 27 hole event played on Friday, August 24th. Members pair up to form 2 man teams and compete in a different format each nine holes. The formats include a nine hole Bestball, nine hole scramble and nine holes of alternate shot. The event includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Senior Retired Classic is for those members who have reached Senior Retired status. Play is 18 hole individual stroke play with many gross, net and side games. The day involves golf, Happy Hour at the Filipics and dinner at the club.
The Green Coat Classic is a two-man team event. Players may pick their own partner. The event is played over two days. The teams play 18 holes on Saturday, nine holes will be a scramble format and nine holes will be best ball. On Sunday, the teams play 9 holes of alternate shot and 9 holes of aggregate. The four rounds are totaled to determine the event champion.
The Fall Round-Up is the final event of the season. Players make their own foursome. The format is an 18 hole Stableford Point Tournament, using full handicap.
Women’s Tournament Descriptions
The Two Lady Best Ball is an elimination team event. Members make their own two women teams and are seeded at random. Teams play hole-by-hole matches in which two play their net best ball against the net best ball of two other players. The winner of each match advances to the next round. Matches are played throughout the year until only one team stands unbeaten.
The Ladies Two Best Ball of Four Tournament is played on Saturday, July 21st. Members make their own foursomes or the Pro Shop will pair any singles. Everyone plays their own ball and the foursome uses the two best scores (using full handicap) on each hole.
The Women’s Club Championship is played as an individual match play elimination tournament. Players are seeded in their flight based on their handicap index. Matches are played according to the seeding. The winner of each match advances to the next round until a champion is determined in each flight. The winner of the AA flight is the Club Champion.
The Women’s Columbia Cup is scheduled for Saturday, August 18th. The field is split into two teams and is played in a Ryder Cup format.
Mixed Event Descriptions
A couple’s event will be held on each of the Summer Holidays, including Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. The Pro Shop creates different formats for each day. Couples may sign up to play with another couple or the Pro Shop will pair them.
The Couples Invitational is a day for our member couples to invite a guest couple to the club. A foursome golf competition takes place at 1:00 followed by dinner, drinks and fun.
Columbia Hills Day is one of the biggest events of the year. It is an all day event that starts with breakfast and doesn’t stop until the band stops playing. Golf begins at 9:30 with 3 couples joining together to make six person teams. We play as six-somes and the Pro Shop creates a unique format. The big Columbia Hills Day raffle is held after golf. Dinner and dancing cap off the evening.
The Couples Championship is a one-day tournament held on Sunday, August 26th. The format is one best ball of the couple, using full handicap. The couple with the lowest best ball score is crowned the 2007 Couples Champions. The Pro Shop makes the pairings.
Skunk Golf is an event that pits the men against the women. Everyone plays his or her own ball. When all the scores are turned in, we add the men’s net scores (less handicap) and the women’s net scores (less handicap). The team with the lowest total is the Skunk Golf Champions and has steak for dinner that evening. The team with the highest total must display the skunk in their locker for the year and has potluck for dinner that evening.
