May / June 2009 Newsletter

                      A Wise Pro once said…

Let’s get it started – and what a great start to the 2009 golf season.

March & April update

We recorded more rounds in March and April than last year and we have already had some exciting events.  The first event of the year (Men’s Opening Day) was won by a foursome that has 135 combined years at Columbia Hills.  Congratulations to Bob Wasacz, Jeff Peacock, Ray Zak, and Don Bryant.  They edged out three other teams by one stroke.

The Get Acquainted Tournament was won by Dave Jacobs, Gene Welsh, Carl McLaughlin, and Joe Poyma.  Well done guys.

The Two Man Best Ball brackets have been posted and the 1st round matches are due by June 6th.  The brackets are posted in the Pro Shop and on the website.

Speaking of the web site, I want to thank my wife Theresa one more time for all her efforts making the web site a valuable tool for us.  It is our plan to post pairings to events, tee times, event results and more.  If you want to find out how an event went the previous day, we are hoping to get the site updated that fast.

We already have had two holes in one and both of them were on Hole 15.  Congratulations to Dan Weinhardt and Dave Tofel for their perfect shots.  Two holes in one before Memorial Day – it’s going to be a good year!

Changes to Cart Traffic

As you know, the bridge going over the parking lot has been removed.  All carts will now use the cart path alongside the driveway coming up to the clubhouse.  The path has been widened in three spots to accommodate two-way traffic.  Please take it slow in this area and be aware of oncoming traffic.

Also, please be careful when you approach the bottom of the cart path.  The cart path crosses the driveway.  Since it is an intersection involving cars and carts, we ask everyone to be careful as they approach the intersection from every direction.  Here are the guidelines for that area:

·                    As you enter the club, please proceed slowly as you approach the intersection.

·                    As you leave the club, stop at the intersection before turning right.

·                    As you drive a golf cart either direction, stop as you approach the intersection.

 Guest Fees

Don’t forget about the program that we have in place for guest rates this year.  The guest rate right now is $25 per guest and that will remain in effect until June 15.  If you bring out 9 or more guests before June 15th, you lock in that rate for the rest of the year.

Supper Golf is back this year on many Saturday’s throughout the year.  If you bring out 2 or more guests on a Saturday after 1:00 and spend a minimum of $80 dining that night, 2 of the guest fees are waived.

Head Covers & Ninth Green

One of our goals at the Pro Shop this year is to make sure that headcovers get on the correct clubs.  When the guys take your clubs off the cart, it is sometimes difficult to figure out what headcovers go with what clubs when the covers are left in the cart basket.  It would help us minimize the errors if you could put your headcovers on the correct clubs before the guys take the clubs for cleaning.  Thank you.

We know it is tempting to take a few practice putts on the ninth green before you begin play but for the health of the green, the fairness of all and the safety of all please refrain from practicing on the ninth green.

Memorial Day Weekend Events

What a great Memorial Weekend.  Thirty-two couples teed it up in our Memorial Day Blind Draw Couples Event.  Congratulations to our winning team:  Ross & Rochelle Thuener and Greg & Mary Ann Frey.

The team of Bob & Shirlei Wasacz and Leon & Shirley Chill came in with a strong second place finish.

The Williams Cup (named after the club’s founder, Judge Williams) is a three day event that we held over the Memorial Day Weekend.  The men’s division was as close as ever.  In fact, we have four champions from the men’s division.  With a sizzling score of 63, congratulations to John Bourjaily, Ed Schartman, Jerry Wild, and Tim Synk.

The women’s division was also well contested with two ladies sneaking ahead of the pack and then 5 ladies tied for third.  Congratulations to our Champion Natalie Hoffman and our runner-up Shirley Chill.
