For 70 Years, Columbia Hills Country Club has provided its members with challenging golf, entertaining social events, beautiful scenery and a friendly atmosphere.  Its reputation has golfers around Northern Ohio anxious to discover this well-kept secret.

Nestled on the eastern edge of Lorain County on one hundred sixty-six acres bisected by the West Branch of the Rocky River and adjacent to both Cuyahoga and Medina Counties is a club with a history dating back to the late 1920's. For decades Columbia Hills Country Club has been a well kept secret within the Cleveland district but recent population growth in the southwestern portion of Cuyahoga County and developments at the club itself have given rise to the awakening of what members for years have considered a sleeping giant.

The History:
In 1926 the property that was to become Columbia Hills Country Club was owned by Judge George L. Williams. Until that year "The Judge" had never held a golf club in his hands. His nephew, Henry Williams, introduced him to the game of golf, and as the saying goes, "The rest is history!"

Having been bitten by the "golf bug," Judge Williams brought in Harold Paddock, later the builder and owner of Aurora Country Club, to design the course which was built in 1927-1928. The Tudor clubhouse, designed by Bruce Long, was constructed and both the course and house were opened in 1929, just prior to the onset of the Great Depression.

Following the death of Judge Williams in 1938, provision was made in the Contract of Sale for Henry Williams, the nephew who had first introduced the Judge to golf, to serve on the Board of Trustees of the non-profit corporation known as Columbia Hills Country Club, Inc. A "friendly" foreclosure in 1944 returned ownership to Marion Williams who in 1949 sold the club to Henry Williams. The semi-private club operated under Henry Williams until 1963 at which time the membership purchased the club and formed the current organizational structure.
